Thin smartphones-cum-mini-tablets with huge screens and hundreds upon hundreds of Android-powered smartphones have characterized smartphone previews and launches at the IFA expo in Berlin.

Relaxnews takes a look at some of the most notable smartphones appearing on the showroom floor at this year's IFA:

A prototype for a smartphone-tablet hybrid
Samsung's Galaxy Note is a device that fits in between the smartphone and tablet categories. It sports the industry's first and largest 5.3' HD Super AMOLED display but still manages to fit into a (large) pocket. The Galaxy Note can be used with your finger or with an 'advanced pen-input called the S Pen.' It has a profile of 9.65mm, a 1.4GHz dual-core processor, HSPA+ and 4G LTE connectivity, an 8MP camera, full HD recording and runs Android 2.3 Gingerbread. The device is currently in a prototype stage so pricing and release dates have not been revealed.

A smartphone that connects to different screens to become a tablet, laptop or game console
Korean telecommunication company KT unveiled its Spider Phone prototype at IFA, a device that connects to and provides functionality to tablet PC, laptop or gaming console kits. The Android-powered Spider Phone has a large 4.5' high resolution display of its own plus a 1.5GHz dual-core processor, rear- (8MP) and front (3MP)-facing cameras with 1080p video recording, and 5.1Ch audio. The Spider Phone will be launched in November. No price has been announced.

A smartphone with the largest screen ever seen on a Windows Phone
HTC's Titan is, as its name suggests, a huge smartphone with a 4.7" display and a slim 9.9mm body. The Titan ships with a rear-facing 8MP 28mm wide-angle lens camera capable of recording HD (720p) video and a 1.3MP front-facing camera for video chats. It has a 1.5GHz processor, 3G and WiFi connectivity, and runs Windows Phone OS 7.5. The HTC Titan will be available from October. Pricing has not been announced.

A LTE version of Samsung's popular Android smartphone
Samsung added another smartphone to its Galaxy range, the Samsung Galaxy S II LTE. The Android device is a variation on Samsung's original Galaxy S II smartphone and provides consumers with 4G connectivity and a faster 1.5GHz dual-core processor. The Galaxy S II LTE has also been upgraded with a 4.5' Super AMOLED Plus display. No word on pricing or release date.

An Android smartphone that's made for entertainment

Sony Ericsson's Xperia arc S is the company's fastest entertainment smartphone yet. It comes with a large 4.2' touchscreen Reality display, an 8.7mm profile and runs on a 1.4 GHz processor. Additional features include the ability to take 3D and 2D sweep panorama photographs with the 8.1MP camera, access to Sony's Music Unlimited and Video Unlimited services and Google's Android Gingerbread 2.3 OS. The Sony Ericsson Xperia arc S will be available from Q4 2011. No price has been announced.
