The third expansion for 'Borderlands 2,' called Sir Hammerlock's Big Game Hunt, is due for release on January 15 across Xbox 360, PC and PlayStation 3, with the date announcement accompanied by a twee black and white trailer.

In keeping with the colonial British affectations of the half-man, half-robotic game character Sir Hammerlock, the Big Game Hunt will send players off on a mission to track some of Pandora's most savage creatures, while challenged by some of Handsome Jack's loyalist remnant.

Publisher Take-Two pushed 5 million copies of the game out to retail in September, in advance of annual updates from more established action games such as 'Assassin's Creed' and 'Call of Duty.'

Next up on the slate is 'BioShock Infinite,' due in March 2013, and 'Grand Theft Auto V,' tabled for spring.
