Want to turn your television into a computer with a Chrome operating system? Then keep ₹7,999 ready by January when Asus Chromebit launches in India.
A tiny computer that can plug into the HDMI port of the television, the Asus Chromebit enables the television to do anything the Chrome browser is capable of, with added offline features such as working on documents, playing media or offline games.
Companies have already unleashed such devices that run Windows in the market, but these usually come with a sluggish experience.
Chrome OS is essentially a Chrome browser with added features and thus boots pretty fast and operates even on systems such as the Chromebit which have 2GB of RAM, 16GB internal storage and runs on a 1.8 GHz processor.
The system always stays updated when connected to the Wi-Fi and sports a USB port for expanding storage or connecting wireless devices. The Chromebit also supports Bluetooth for wireless audio playback and file transfers. When paired with a decent TV, the Chromebit could be a great alternative to the smart TV and Apple TV if you want to consume content predominantly over the web.
The only issue with the Chromebook is its dependence on internet connectivity. While it does function offline as well, being connected to the internet turns the Chrombit into a lightning fast portal for gaming, entertainment and productivity.
