Black and white tale of spooky colonial discover 'Betrayer' continues the bow-and-arrow trend found within 'Tomb Raider,' 'Crysis 3,' 'Assassin's Creed III' and 'Far Cry 3.'
Team members at Blackpowder Games knew each other from working on creepy action game 'F.E.A.R.,' James Bond satire 'No One Lives Forever' and futuristic 'Shogo: Mobile Armor Division.'
But 'Betrayer,' though set in colonial America just like 'Assassin's Creed III,' and inspired by the disappearance of late-16th century Roanoke Colony, appears to have just as much in common with the distinctively atmospheric and weapons-free 'Miasmata' or historical survival horror 'Cryostasis.'
Players step into the shoes of a migrant ready to aid an ailing colony town on the east coast of America. Once there, they find a wild world sapped of color, devoid of populace save for apparent ghosts, conquistadors, and a mysterious and distant woman in red.
And it'll be up to players to work out what happened, as they gather artifacts and clues, making use of the early 17th century weapons they find scattered over the landscape.
