New to the fold is King of Fighters XIII, which debuted as an arcade cabinet in 2010 before transitioning to home consoles in late 2011, and two brand-new console titles in the form of SoulCalibur V (January 2012) and Street Fighter x Tekken (March 2012).
Qualifiers are integrated into other video game tournaments, with the first opportunity presenting itself at New Jersey's Apex Tournament Series, January 6-8.
By the time of June's Midwest Championships in Nashville, there will have been three previous tournaments hosted in each of the USA's major regions: the Southern states, the Midwest, the Northeast and the West.
Canadian hopefuls can head to Toronto (May 4-6) or Montreal (June 3-4), while Australia's February 17-19 heats take place in Sydney and Singapore hosts the South East Asia Major come March 17-18.
