Following the large scale changes Mark Zuckerberg announced at the annual F8 Developers Conference on September 22, users of the social networking site have flocked to the official Facebook and F8 pages for more news according to data released by social media analysts Famecount.
The data shows that in the week prior to September 27, fans of the official Facebook page and of the F8 Developers' Conference page increased dramatically.
The official Facebook page grew steadily before and after the F8 conference on September 22, gaining a total of 386,000 fans over the past week.
The official F8 Facebook page experienced less consistent but equally dramatic growth, gaining 68,000 fans over the night of September 22-23. This growth in fans continued, albeit at a less dramatic rate, after the conference, with fans increasing by a total of 99,000 over the week of September 20-27, almost doubling the total amount of fans the page had on September 21.
While the amount of information regarding the changes to Facebook, such as the Timeline feature, that were announced at the developers conference has decreased on the official F8 page, the Facebook page continues to regularly post information regarding the changes, Facebook rumors and events on its wall.
While the increase in fans of both the Facebook and F8 pages does not necessarily mean that Facebook users endorse the changes that some see as controversial, it does show that a large number of fans are becoming increasingly engaged with the social network and are following the frequent changes to Facebook more closely.
Other popular Facebook pages, by number of fans over the past week, according to data from Famecount included publication National Geographic, game Angry Birds and footballers Leo Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo.
The top ten Facebook pages with the largest increase in fans over the week prior to September 27 according to Famecount.com are:
01. NatGeo (+438, 807 fans this week)
02. Facebook (+368,202 fans this week)
