Facebook is starting to show its members exactly who has viewed which posts within Facebook groups.

The new read receipts will combat the problem of knowing which members see what and the need for follow-up "did you read my post?" messages.

"Starting today when you visit a group, you can view who's seen each post. This way you can stay updated on the group's activity," said Facebook in a July 11 statement. "For example, in your soccer group you can post the new practice time and then see who got the update."

The read receipts will show up in both the desktop and mobile versions of Facebook soon after at least one person has visited the group page and read the post. Facebook's read receipts will also detail the exact time when the person read the post and will be viewable to all members of the group.

Facebook is staying mum on whether or not the feature will eventually appear on posts within users' main newsfeeds, but such implementation could drum up yet another wave of privacy concerns for the social network and its users.

Some people on Twitter are already calling the feature "creepy" while others are not sure what to make of it yet.

"Useful or creepy? Feels like I'm asking this about FB a lot," read tweets."[T]he new facebook read receipts on groups is creepy. if they apply that to the newsfeed and timeline then i'm ditching facebook for real."
