With the new application, users can 'check in' to a location and post it onto their profiles for all to see just the way you update your status message, CNET reported.

This app not only lets you know where your friends are, you can also tag your friends and find out what is happening around you from within the social network.

After the recent backlash from users regarding privacy settings, the default privacy setting for the feature are 'Friends Only'. The users can choose to opt out of checking in the application.

In order to integrate this feature with mobile web services, social-networking giant, Facebook is working with Yelp, Foursquare, and other firms.
