First day, first show on your PC
A new website allows you to legally watch movies at home...
Dingora.com will offer a do-it-yourself web service that allows you to watch a movie on your computer on the night of its theatrical release.
And by paying a certain amount, members can pick and choose from a range of movies currently showing in city theatres and view them at their convenience.
Wait no more
Pankaj Sikka, an NRI who launched the website, rues the fact that hardly 10 per cent Bollywood movies get a theatrical release in the US. "We have to wait for weeks for the DVD to show up on the store shelves which is why I came up with the idea of this website," explains Sikka.
The site is currently available in a beta version.
It will come to India in a couple of weeks with Sikka planning to stream regional cinema, documentaries, shorts, movies that have being acclaimed on the festival circuit but have not managed to find a distributor and Bollywood blockbusters.
"Dingora.com offers an alternate form of film distribution and a new revenue model for filmmakers to battle piracy," informs Sikka. "Producers and rights holders can release their films online on the same Friday of their theatrical release."
He adds, "They can decide the pricing of their movies and can block countries, states, cities and even an area within a particular radius regions to avoid overlapping the theatrical release territories. They can also run multiple movies from their account at the same time, with each movie having its individual distribution design viz-a-viz blocked areas, price and period of run."
Sikka insists he has the support of the film industry and the response has been overwhelming from filmmakers, production houses and even the studios.
