Google is celebrating the 182nd birth anniversary of British photographer, Eadweard J Muybridge, famous for his work on animal motion photography.
Born in England on April 9, 1830, he discovered his passion for photography while recuperating after a stagecoach accident. Muybridge experimented with large cameras placed in a series to capture the locomotion of a galloping horse, the images of which were shown in a series on a machine called Zoopraxiscope.
The animated doodle pays homage to Muybridge's best-known projects, 'Sallie Gardner at a Gallop'. In 1877,Muybridge captured the running horse on his camera thus proving the burning question of the day that the all four of a horse's hooves are off the ground at the same time during the trot.
Muybridge's iconic photography and innovation inspired many others such as Thomas Edison and Francis Bacon.
Google has a tradition of honoring great artists in its Google Doodle's. The previous doodle was an ode to German architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
