While rumors of a cloud storage service from Google have been circulating for a long time, a new report claims that Google Drive will be launched next week.
'Citing a draft release from one of Google's launch partners for the service, TheNextWeb claims the service will initially be free, giving out 5 GB of storage to every user. The details on how, exactly, Google Drive will integrate with your PC are scarce; 'desktop folder' integration on Mac and Windows machines is mentioned, but not explained,' Mashable reports.
This rumor was followed by TechCrunch post which shows a screenshot from an early build of the OS X Google Drive application. The screenshot suggests that the application would be locally installed and would support integration with other Google applications.
If launched, Google Drive will compete with online storage services such as Apple's iCloud or Dropbox and Microsoft's SkyDrive.
