Google goofs up, misspells product name
Did you get a mail from Google Wage? Well, hold your horses as it's not a paycheck from them. In fact, it is a typo by the search engine in an email alert sent out to users announcing Google Wave's shut down.
Did you get a mail by Google Wage? Well, hold your horses; it's not a paycheck from them. In fact, it is a typo by the search engine in its own product Google Wave.
Google's PR sent out a mail informing the users that they will be discontinuing Google Wave service from end of next month. But seems like the stress of such an announcement took a toll and they ended up making a typo in the sender's name from Google Wave to Google 'Wage'.
The email said, 'Dear Wavers, more than a year ago we announced that Google Wave would no longer be developed as a separate product. Back in November 2011, we shared the specific dates for ending this maintenance period and shutting down Wave. Google Wave is now in read-only mode. This is reminder that the Wave service will be turned off on April 30, 2012.'
Google's unfortunate typo has made it a butt of joke on social platforms. The Twitter world is abuzz with jokes on Google misspelling its own product name.
'Mind you, I'm a bit surprised to get an email from 'Google Wage wave-noreply@google.com. Am I on the payroll now?', tweeted @jpstacey.
@chriseng, another twitter user tweeted, 'Google Wave misspelled itself as 'Google Wage' in their product sunset email that went out today. One final mistake for posterity!
Seems like a fitting goodbye to a failed product!
