Google has rolled out jobs application ‘Kormo Jobs' in India after trialling the service in markets such as in Bangladesh and Indonesia. Google had introduced a job platform as a Spot on Google Pay last year. The Spot will now be rebranded as Kormo Jobs on the payment platform as well.

Google pointed out that the platform had seen big traction with active participation from job seekers as well as businesses. Google named Zomato and Dunzo as some of the companies who used the service to recruit candidates.

Google said that more than 2 million verified jobs were posted on the platform. The success encouraged Google to launch Kormo Jobs Android app in India.

“In the wake of the pandemic, the jobs landscape stands altered, with demand shifting to new services that require different sets of skills and experience. Businesses of all sizes face the challenges of the new normal, while job seekers are having to adapt to this shift quickly,” wrote Bickey Russell, Regional Manager and Operations Lead, Kormo Jobs, Google in a post.

“We are heartened to be able to play a helpful role in facilitating connections to impact lives for the better, including introducing important features like remote interviewing earlier this year to ensure social distancing,” he added.

Google has been trying to gain some footprints in the jobs space for quite some time. Earlier this year, Google added more jobs search features to its search engine. More recently, Google updated the newly launched activity cards to include recent job searches. The company said it will update these job searches with new and relevant job postings. The activity cards will further feature the latest job postings updated relevant to a specific job search.

Google's new jobs platform will compete with LinkedIn, which is one of the biggest professional networking platforms in the world. In India, however, local jobs platforms such as Shine.com, Monster, and Naukri.com are also popular.
