# Google+ ‘not a social network’

## Google+ and Facebook might be locked in a battle to become the number one social network, but a top Google+ official says that Google+ is not a social network. Read on to know more.

Google+ is not a social network that directly competes with Facebook, a top company official has said.

"It is a platform which allows us to bring social elements into all the services and products that we offer. So you have seen YouTube come into Google+; you've seen Google+ with 'direct connect' go into our search business", the Telegraph quoted Google's Chief Business Officer Nikesh Arora, as saying.

"We are trying to make sure we use social signals across all of our products... It's not just about getting people together on one site and calling it a social network," he added.

However, " there are some features on Google+ which compete with some features on Facebook," he added.

Google Chief Executive Larry Page had earlier made 25 percent of employees' bonuses dependent upon the success of all social products.

Arora also said that the revamping of the modern web was going to be social rather than information-based, and users would have to provide more personal information if they were to fully utilize the social products.

"And that' s the choice we are going to have to make as consumers based around trust and convenience. [We can say] I trust you [a web company] to have this information about me because you are going to make it convenient for me to use a service and i don't trust you to have other information," he added.

Though Google+ has attracted over 40 million users, it is not yet known how many people are active users.
