Google Pay, one of the popular unified payment interfaces, has crossed the 150 million users mark across 40 countries globally. Google chief executive officer (CEO) Sundar Pichai especially applauded India's digital payments growth story. Pichai during the company's quarterly earnings call, said that the digital payments work in India is “certainly what really got everything started”.

He shared that the digital payment platform has 150 million people across 40 countries. He also stated that the company is ensuring that Google Pay works well across the board and is looking to ensure it is easily usable at all sites. Pichai also said, “And then over time, we will innovate and build new digital experiences.”

The CEO further emphasized that the company seeks Google Pay to work smoothly both for the merchant and the financial institutions as well so that they can connect with the customers well. ‘We are really building for scale, building for simplicity. And then over time, we will layer on additional helpful features,” He added.

According to the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI), the UPI has processed 5.04 billion transactions till March 29, amounting to 8.88 trillion. It was 11.5% more than the volume of transactions processed in February and 7.5% higher in terms of the value of transactions processed.

With digitalisation, the Indian digital payment apps like PhonePe, Google Pay, and Paytm have made transactions pretty easy. Now one can send or receive money with just one tap anytime, anywhere.

The number of Google Pay users has surged exponentially, and it seems like the platform is keen on being more user friendly. The app is likely to introduce a new wallet interface soon. This will allow users to store all their digital cards including debit or credit cards, loyalty cards, gift cards, and transit cards as well as make contactless payments via NFC. That's not all, but the wallet will also have a "Purchase Review" section where users can see transaction details after making a purchase.
