Google Photos app update gets better on Android tablets, here’s what has changed

With the new optimized interface, you can see the top bar getting a search field. However, its position will depend on how wide the screen of the tablet is.

Google is making its Phones application better on Android tablets. If you remember, back in June the company redesigned its Photos app with simpler navigation and much-required map view. Although the revamp was clearly visible on smartphones and website, the tablet version was something that didn't get the change that was required for large screens. However, with an improved version, the app now takes better advantage of that large screen.

With the new optimized interface, you can see the top bar getting a search field. However, its position will depend on how wide the screen of the tablet is.

If the tablet is mid-sized or small-sized, the search field will appear next to the profile image and Cast icon. However, on bigger screens like Chromebooks, it will appear on the left, along with a prompt and even an upload button that will open the devices Files app, reports 9to5 Google. 

You will also notice that the tablet version renames the search bar from ‘search' to ‘explore'. However, the People, Places and Things carousels remain unchanged. In addition, the bottom bar is now replaced by a navigation rail on the left edge. 

Now, after the Photos and the Explore option you can see Sharing option that is no longer now located at the top left corner. Below that, you can see options like Library, On device, Utilities, Archive and Trash.

It has been mentioned that this new Google Photos app optimized for tablets is rolling out with v5.25 and is yet to be made available to all the users across the world. There is no word when these changes will be coming to the iOS app.
