At around 2 AM today, November 9, people in Delhi were woken up by a strong earthquake. It turned out that a powerful 6.3 magnitude earthquake, whose epicenter was in Nepal, caused the earthquake in Delhi. This came just a week after the 4.8 magnitude earthquake in California. Earthquakes are not to be taken lightly. We all remember the 2001 Gujarat earthquake that caused widespread destruction and deaths. Then there was the horrific Nepal quake. Recently, Haiti experienced a 7.2 magnitude earthquake in 2021 that affected 650,000 people. While Earthquakes are unpredictable, there are apps on Google Play Store that can help you prepare for any emergency. Read on for the list of top 5 earthquake apps that can help you with alerts and more.

Earthquake Network

This app uses your smartphone to detect earthquakes and then connects with a virtual network of devices that can help crowdsource the data for other users. With thousands of connected devices, you can see alerts for an earthquake in your area before the official information from local sources. The free version also has data on older earthquakes which can come in quite handy.

Earthquake Pro

A simple app, EarthQuake Pro will provide users with a list of all the earthquakes that have occurred in the recent past, while also monitoring local earthquake alerts. It features a modern interface and does contain ads. Users can also try out the built-in seismograph feature on the app.

My Earthquake Alerts

When it comes to earthquakes, users who want a straightforward app that alerts them about an incoming earthquake can opt for My Earthquake Alerts. This app allows you to monitor your own area, without any unwanted alerts for other areas. Users can remove ads in the free version by purchasing the pro version, but it does not appear to add any extra features.

Volcanoes and Earthquakes

If you are interested in more than just earthquakes, the Volcanoes and Earthquakes app will allow you to view and keep track of different natural events around the world. You can check on volcanoes that might erupt, or see push notifications for events that took place recently. There's a premium version for the app too, which means you won't see advertisements while using the app.

LastQuake

This is the official app of the Euro-Mediterranean Seismological Center and is developed by seismologists. The app gets information about earthquakes by sourcing its data from public information and gives you an estimate of the scale of the earthquake. Users will be able to access information that is based on data from 86 institutes and 57 countries on the app, which is available for free.
