The persistent rumor according that suggested Huawei would build the next Google Nexus smartphone is close to being confirmed according to statements made by a source close to the Chinese manufacturer and published by the International Business Times website.

The source, who works for Huawei in the UK, states that the Chinese smartphone manufacturer is looking at several models, including a phablet. This would be a win-win partnership that would help the brand make a splash in western markets. The new smartphone could possibly have a 5.7 inch display, a Snapdragon 810 processor and, evidently, will function using the latest Android version, M. As usual, the new Nexus will be unveiled and launched in the fall.

Google has been offering its Nexus line of smartphones since 2010. They all come without a customized UI and are capable of being unlocked in order to access the system and develop or customize it. These are also, of course, the first models to be upgraded with new versions of Android.

The last Nexus smartphone, which came out in the fall of 2014, was developed with Motorola. This was already a 5.96 inch phablet with a record 493ppi resolution. It notably came equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 quad-core 2.7GHz processor and a 13MP camera with optical image stabilization. It retailed for €599.

According to Gartner, with 18.1 million devices sold in the first quarter of 2015, Huawei is now the fourth largest smartphone seller in the world behind Samsung (81.1m), Apple (60.1m) and Lenovo (18.8m).
