Indian government bans 220 apps: Here’s the entire list

Prior to this, the Indian government had banned a total of 118 Chinese apps in September 2020. Before that, the government had banned 59 mobile apps in the country.

The Indian government today banned 43 apps in the country. The action, the Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology said, was taken as these apps were ‘prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order.'

“This action was taken based on the inputs regarding these apps for engaging in activities which are prejudicial to sovereignty and integrity of India, defence of India, security of state and public order. Ministry of Electronics and Information Technology has issued the order for blocking the access of these apps by users in India based on the comprehensive reports received from Indian Cyber Crime Coordination Center, Ministry of Home Affairs,” the government wrote in a press release.

To recall, this is not the first time the government has banned apps in the country. Prior to this, the Indian government had banned a total of 118 Chinese apps in September 2020. Before that, the government had banned 59 mobile apps in the country. With this, the government so far has banned a total of 220 apps in the country.
