iOS app Draw Something reaches 50 million downloads

The Pictionary/social networking iOS app Draw Something has reached a whopping 50 million downloads in 50 days, according to a report on tech blog Mashable.

Users of the app are given a choice of three words and can choose to draw one; this image is then sent to their friends, who have to guess what the doodle is. Users can connect to friends via Facebook or random players via Twitter.

The app was released on February 12 and by March 12 had surpassed 20 million downloads, making it more popular than geo-location based app Foursquare.

On April 5 tech blog Mashable reported that the app had broken the 50 million downloads barrier only 50 days after its release, counting to Monday, April 1.

According to AppData the app has around 14.4 million active daily users; in comparison, the second most popular app, Words with Friends (also owned by Zynga), has around eight million active daily users.

Draw Something was developed by OMGPOP before the company was acquired by gaming giant Zynga in March.
