Apple has finally unveiled its major OS upgrade iOS 16 for iPhone 8 and later versions at the WWDC 2022 on June 6. The update has arrived with several under-the-hood improvements, and features like new levels of customisation, message update etc. But the biggest update that we all have been waiting for is the long-rumoured Always-On display that is expected to arrive on iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Mark Gurman of Bloomberg had earlier reported that the always-on display is coming. And now the Ios 16 Beta is available and 9to5Mac has listed out multiple references that confirm iOS 16 does support an always-on display. What is more it is probably being tested on an iPhone 13 Pro model.

9to5Mac has listed three new frameworks related to backlight management- a key aspect of enabling the always-on feature of the iPhone's display within iOS 16. As per the report, each framework includes references to the always-on display feature. All these frameworks discovered are used by different components of iOS, including the Lock Screen as well as the Springboard, which manages the iPhone's Lock Screen. Also, there are hidden flags within iOS 16 that can be used by Apple engineers to enable the always-on display even on previous models.

Meanwhile, the always-on display feature is rumoured to be limited to the iPhone 14 Pro lineup because of the variable refresh rate technology of the ProMotion display. Hence the iPhone 14 Pro is likely to come up with variable refresh rate support that can be reduced to 1Hz similar to the Apple Watch's always-on display. It will preserve battery life while offering an always-on display. Also Read: iPhone 13, iPhone 12, iPhone 8, iPhone SE owner? You just got these FREE new benefits; check full list

Apart from the always-on display feature, the Cupertino based tech giant is also rumoured to bring some exclusive features to the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro Max. Speculation is rife that Apple may only include its new A16 chip with the two premium pro models, while it will retain the A15 bionic chipset for non-pro models.
