Sony's new handset for Japanese customers, the Xperia A4, appears very similar in specification to the scaled-down Z3 Compact first unveiled in 2014.
The mid-range Android smartphone comes with a 4.6in display and 2.5GHz Snapdragon 801 chip, just like the Z3 Compact, as well as Sony's ubiquitous 20.7MP camera apparatus.
Secondary camera specs (2.2MP), battery power (2,600mhA), memory capacity (2GB RAM, 16GB internal, microSD up to 128GB) and a 129g weight are also all the same, with the A4 coming in only slightly larger at 128 x 66 x 9.1mm to the Z3 Compact's 127.3 x 64.9 x 8.6mm.
NTTDocomo is carrying the device, in advance of both the Xperia A4 and Z4 arriving in June, and an Xperia Z4 Tablet in July.
