Currently available only to select users, JioPay was reportedly being internally tested for over a year and has started being rolled out to some JioPhones, about 1,000 of them, on August 15. Previous reports suggest that Jio has been working with National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to enable proprietary payments on the 4G phone with smart features, the JioPhone, that launched in July 2017. According to the screenshots shared by BGR India, the JioPay app on the JioPhone offers features like Tap & Pay, Send Money, Recharge and Accounts. There is also an option for users to view their payment history. Also read click here. To send and receive money, the JioPay app appears to be using UPI and it’s also likely that the app is going to leverage in built-in NFC on the JioPhone to enable the Tap & Pay feature. According to reports, Jio has reworked the UPI payment transaction system to bring JioPay to the KaiOS-running Jio Phone and has brought on Axis Bank, ICIC Bank, HDFC Bank, Kotak Mahindra Bank, RBL Bank, IndusInd, Standard Charted, Yes Bank and the State Bank of India on board to enable seamless payments. In January this year, the MyJio app seen enabling a UPI-based payment option for smartphone users in a move to take on the likes of Google Pay and WhatsApp pay.
