Apple’s iOS 11.3.1 update is disabling microphone for some iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus users
Some users have complained that they are unable to make voice calls, video calls through Facetime or even record voice memos after iOS 11.3.1 update.
Apple's iOS 11.3.1 update has a nasty surprise for iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus users. The new update which was in late April is reportedly disabling microphone functionality on some iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models. Users are complaining that they are unable to make voice calls, video calls on FaceTime or even record voice memos. Apparently, the problem doesn't get fixed after a hard reset of the phone as well.
Apple has admitted the bug and is reportedly working on a fix. Macrumours, which claims to have accessed an internal document distributed to Apple Authorized Service Providers this week, reported that some users may also notice a grayed speaker button while making voice calls. The company has directed its service providers to run diagnostics on the affected devices, the website further said.
Affected models of Apple iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus will show "device could not detect dock" or "accessory not supported" alert when running diagnostics. The company is also making an exception for customers whose iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus models have their warranties expired. Macrumors further highlighted that not all iPhone 7 and iPhone 7 Plus customers are facing this difficulty. But those who are facing the issue have taken to platforms like Twitter, support pages and Reddit to flag the problem.
"Ever since I updated to iOS 11.3 (the day it came out), my mic stopped working. I can no longer use Siri (like I ever used it anyways), no voice memos (can't even play old ones), can make calls but both parties hear nothing, video recording record without the sound," wrote one user on Reddit.
"I finally got the time to play with it today, updated to iOS 11.3.1 first, it didn't fix any of my phone's problems so restored the phone, set it up as a new phone etc... Nothing is working. My mic hardware is ok, iOS 11.2 was just fine." You can follow the entire Reddit subthread here. RELATED: Apple iOS 11.3: Here are the top features
That said, it's pretty common to have the latest iOS or even Android updates to come with a few minor updates. But the recent iOS updates have caused major issues for several iPhone users. For instance, the latest iOS 11.3.1 update came with a fix that caused iPhone 8 screens (third-party repaired) to become unresponsive. ALSO READ: Facing Wi-Fi issues after iOS 11 update? @AppleSupport Hi, Apple. I really need your help! Last night my iphone 7+ underwent a software update for iOS 11.3.1 and ever since, my microphone feature hasn't been functioning. No calls, voice memos, or voice record. I've hard reset already and no change. Please help.

If you have #iPhone 7 or 7+ I don't recommend updating IOS to 11.3.1. Might stop your microphone from working.
