LeEco beats Apple at dropping the headphone jack with Le ‘superphones’

LeEco with the successful launch of Le 1s in India, has launched three new "superphones" on Wednesday. The company also introduced a new range of television sets and their first driverless concept Super Car.

Throwing a direct challenge to the Apple iPhone 6 plus, LeEco group founder and chairman Jia Yueting unraveled the Le Max 2 for Chinese smartphone users along with two more superphones -- Le 2 and Le 2 Pro. Neither of the phones sport a 3.5 mm headphone jack. For music playback, you'll have to get a USB Type-C headphones that the company launched along with the devices. Something that Apple was rumoured to be aiming at for iPhone 7.

"We want to break barriers between humans and devices. Our products are manufactured in focus with ecosystem-driven innovation. We are in an eco-technology era. People may not initially believe us but once used, Max 2 will prove why it is better than Apple iPhone 6 plus," said Jia at the event.

Weighing in at 153 grams, 8.5 mm in width and 151 mm long, the Le Max 2's USB Type-C slot doubles up as an audio port feature CDLA (Continual Digital Lossless Audio) technology for high-quality audio that makes it stand out, claimed the founder.

With three different desktops for the mobile screen, the Le Max 2 comes with live streaming of three channels at a time, which the founder added, will be upped to nine very soon.

"Cloud video is our priority. We had spent a year working on live broadcasts. Even Facebook broadcast our event live," Jia added.

Available with 6GB internal memory and 64GB extendable memory, Le Max 2 comes with a 5.7-inch QHD display along with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 820 quad-core processor.

Running on Android 6.0 Marshmallow OS wrapped under LeEco's customized EUI 5.5, the superphone comes equipped with a 3,100 mAh battery with support for Quick Charge 3.0 feature and connectivity options such as Wi-Fi 802.11ac, 4G LTE, VoLTE and GPS among others.

The founder also claimed that the touch speed of Le Max 2 is 20 times faster than the iPhone 6 plus.

Flaunting its 5.5-inch full HD (1080p) display, the LeEco Le 2 is powered by MediaTek's Helio X20 tri-cluster deca-core processor paired with 3GB of RAM and 32GB of onboard storage. The CDLA featre is available in Le 2 and Le 2 Pro as well.

The phone is equipped with a 16 MP f/2 rear camera with PDAF and LED flash and an 8 MP camera up front.

With a very similar appearance, LeEco Le 2 Pro is powered by MediaTek's Helio X25 deca-core chipset paired with 4GB of RAM and 32GB and 64GB internal storage variants. With a 21 MP rear camera and 8 MPfront camera, connectivity options and the battery capacity are similar as Le 2.

All three "superphones" have a metal unibody design, thin bezels on the front and a fingerprint scanner on the back for extra security.

The devices will be available in the Chinese market from April 26, with the Le 2 priced at 1,099 RMB ( 11,246 ), L2 Pro at 1499 RMB (15,330) and Le Max 2 at 2099 RMB (21,500).
