LeEco launches new smartphone, entertainment services in India

Chinese entertainment and electronics company Letv's India division LeEco on Tuesday launched a new smartphone along with its entertainment services in the country.

The company also said that its phones will now support nine Indian languages including Tamil, Asamese, Bengali, Oriya and Punjabi.

Under the new services which is priced at 10, 899 including the new Le 1s (ECO) smartphone, the company will stream content ranging from music to sitcoms along with movies and sports. There will be also a subscription-based model which the company calls LeEco Membership. All LeEco phones will also sport a new app called Le Vidi which is an open platform that aggregates popular videos from the Web.

The company has partnered with Eros Now, and with the distributor, aims to bring over 2,000 movies on demand, new blockbusters, and films across 10 languages. It will also let users access up to nine channels that can be streamed live along with a Yupp TV offering that allows access to 100 premium TV channels.

In terms of live music streaming, the company has tied up with Hungama Music which offers over 3.5 million songs in 22 languages alongside music videos, and access to over 50 live concerts a year. The streaming service is ad-free, and offers 320Kbps audio.

In addition, the company is also offering the LeEco Drive mobile backup which gives users access to 5TB of cloud storage. While Le Vidi and Le Live will launch on May 24, Le Music and LeEco Drive will be made available in Q3 2016.

The Chinese smartphone-maker also announced the successor of the Le 1s. Priced at 9,999, the Le 1s (Eco) features a 5.5-inch Full HD display which is near bezel less with 500 nit brightness. The smartphone is powered by an octa-core MediaTek chipset with PowerVR graphics.

It comes with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage without the option of expanding via a memory card. The Eco, which comes with 3,000mAh battery and uses USB Type-C port for fast charging, sports a 13MP rear camera and a 5MP front camera. The smartphone also has a rear fingerprint scanner.
