Ever a pioneer in the HD TV sector, LG will come to CES 2015 with a new range of 4K sets featuring new tech and an updated version of webOS.

The manufacturer's new ColorPrime series relies on two key technologies to enhance color display. Quantum dot technology, which is emerging as one of the TV trends of the coming CES, will come with the premium models, providing more accurate colors and a 30% wider gamut of hues, according to LG. The other sets in the range will offer LG's Wide Color LED technology, which uses phosphor-based LEDs to boost the color range by 25%.

Consisting of five 4K screens (3,840x2,160 pixels), the ColorPrime range will also introduce webOS 2.0, the updated version of LG's Smart TV platform, which is also slated to premiere at CES. The update is said to bring enhanced speed and smoother transitions, with significantly reduced power-on boot time for the TV and quicker switching from the home screen to apps such as YouTube.

To date, LG claims to have shipped over five million webOS TV sets worldwide. Through partnerships with Netflix and Amazon, among others, the platform is expected to provide LG Smart TV users with access to 4K content starting in 2015.

Finally, the South Korean manufacturer is also due to present a mysterious 55-inch screen with 8K resolution at CES 2015.

The event takes place January 6-9, 2015 in Las Vegas.
