On the night of September 21, LinkedIn went down leaving more than 10,000 users struggling to access the platform due to the outage.
On September 21, LinkedIn faced an unexpected outage at around 10:30 PM, according to user reports. LinkedIn went down for more than an hour and the issue began resolving near midnight. The reason behind the outage of the professional networking platform is not known at the moment, however, users faced difficulties in accessing their accounts, checking the feed and opening messages. The issue appears to have been resolved at the moment.
The issue was first reported by online outage monitoring platform Downdetector which tweeted, “User reports indicate LinkedIn is having problems since 1:36 PM EDT. http://downdetector.com/status/linkedin/ RT if you're also having problems #LinkedIndown”. The tweet was sent at around 11 PM at night when thousands were already facing the issue. Many users also complained about the issue on Twitter.

While the reason behind the outage is not known, it seems like a wider server based issue as the problem was not regional and people faced issues in not only accessing various pages but also logging into their own accounts. However, the entire period of outage lasted less than two hours and it appears that the problem has been resolved for now.
The night of September 21 was not a good one for many major platforms. Downdetector also notified about outage incidents on Amazon Web Services, Shopify, WhatsApp, Gmail, Google, Pokemon Go and TikTok all facing some issues. Most of these were minor issues in specific regions and were contained quickly.
During the outage, many users took to Twitter to express their frustrations. One user said, “Love it when LinkedIn Recruiter goes down right when I'm in the middle of working”. While another tweeted, “LinkedIn went down right when I was trying to send an important message to a connection. So frustrating”.
Others also saw the humor in the situation. One Twitterati said, “Me: I'm gonna force myself to finally start networking on LinkedIn. * linkedin is down * Me: Well, if that isn't a sign from the universe”.
