The longest partial lunar eclipse of this century is set to occur in the next six days, on the night of November 18-19, 2021, which will be the second and last lunar eclipse of this year. In India, the lunar eclipse will be visible on November 19, which is the Kartik Purnima, according to the Hindu calendar.

According to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), the partial yet longest lunar eclipse in the 21st century, will last for 3 hours and 28 minutes. Before this, the longest lunar eclipse of the century occurred in July 2018, lasting around 42 minutes.

Lunar eclipse occurs when Earth overlaps the path of the Sun and the Moon, looming on the Moon's surface. Lunar eclipses can only happen during the Full Moon phase, and there are only two to five lunar eclipses every year.

In India, people will be able to see the partial lunar eclipse on November 19. Though, it will not be visible in most parts of the country. People from Arunachal Pradesh and Assam will be lucky to witness the event live during the final phases, if weather permits. However, those who want to watch it live can do so as many channels will be providing a livestream of this most spectacular space phenomenon.

The lunar eclipse will occur earlier or later in the evening, depending on the time zone of the different countries. You don't need binoculars or a telescope to see this lunar eclipse, just simply go outside and enjoy a magnificent rare glimpse of the moon.

Which other countries will witness the lunar eclipse?

North and South America, Australia, and Europe and Asia will be able to watch the great view of the lunar eclipse. It will begin about 2:18 AM for those on the US East Coast, and will peak around 4:02 AM for those on the West Coast. On the West Coast of the United States, it will begin shortly after 11 PM and will peak at 1 AM.
