Microsoft rolls out Skydrive updates

Microsoft has launched new set of features for SkyDrive, its cloud storage service in an effort to make it the one-stop shop for file syncing and remote file access.

Microsoft has launched new set of features for SkyDrive, its cloud storage service in an effort to make it the one-stop shop for file syncing and remote file access.

'Microsoft integrated the drive into Windows Explorer and Apple's Finder so the drive works as an extension of your desktop, and added the ability to access files stored on your drive from the iPad as well as the iPhone and Windows Phone', reports Mashable.

Last week, Microsoft added URL shortening, ODF support, and 300 MB in-browser uploads to SkyDrive.

Mike Torres, and Omar Shahine, group program managers for SkyDrive posted on the official Microsoft blog, 'In February, we told you about our goals for connecting your apps, files, PCs, and devices to the cloud with SkyDrive and Windows 8. Since then, we have provided the App Preview of a Windows 8 app to access SkyDrive, and we've updated the SkyDrive web experience. Today, we are delivering new capabilities for SkyDrive across the Windows platform.'

Microsoft is going all out to offer a worthy competitor to Apple's iCloud, Dropbox. It might also be trying to make an impression prior to the upcoming launch of Google Drive, Google's cloud storage service.
