Microsoft’s HoloLens will last a disappointing 5 hours on a single charge

Microsoft gave us a rather spectacular demo of its HoloLens augmented reality headset during its hardware event back in October, though did not reveal much about the headgear in terms of pricing, battery life or other functionality. Though during a presentation at Tel Aviv in Israel, the company's Technical Evangelist Bruce Harris did shed some light about the forthcoming HoloLens.

Harris revealed that the headset's battery can last between 2.5 hours to up to 5.5 hours depending upon the usage. Hence, for routine activities the headset could last for more than five hours, though using it for tasks that'll push the headset to its limits will fetch you a mere 2.5 hours of battery life. Bruce also notes that HoloLens will be equipped to run any Universal app currently used in Windows 10 out-of-the-box. He also added that the headset will be "totally wireless" and can connect to any WiFi or a Bluetooth advice.

In terms of field of view, it would be similar to a 15-inch monitor as Microsoft is still trying to optimise the headset's production capabilities to manage costs. Though it should improve in the future once Microsoft figures out a way to manage manufacturing and costs effectively.

Microsoft's HoloLen's is a tad different compared to what other headsets offer, as it uses holograms. The Redmond giant claims that its augmented reality headset "the most advanced holographic computer the world has ever seen."

However, there's still time before it finally arrives for the end user as developers are yet to receive the HoloLens for tests. Microsoft's Executive VP Terry Myerson said during the Windows 10 devices event back in October that the HoloLens development kit will arrive in the first quarter of 2016 for $3000.
