MOTOACTV fitness tracker earns Bluetooth nod at CES in Las Vegas

On January 12, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced Motorola's MOTOACTV music-playing fitness gadget the best overall Bluetooth device, among all categories, at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, this week in Las Vegas.

On January 12, the Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced Motorola's MOTOACTV music-playing fitness gadget the best overall Bluetooth device, among all categories, at this year's Consumer Electronics Show, this week in Las Vegas.

Launched last November in the US, the MOTOACTV is a Bluetooth 4.0-enabled device that tracks time, distance, and calories burned. Plus the device stores hours of music listenable via wireless headphones. It also features a sweat-proof, rain-proof color touch screen that is attachable with a wrist strap, bike mount, or clip.

To track your workouts, the MOTOACTV (weighing in at 35 grams) boasts a heart rate monitor, accelerometer, and GPS.

If you're a fan of creating workout playlists on your iPod, this device aims to take that one step further by noting the songs that motivate you to work harder. So when you need some inspirational beats, it has those tracks at the ready so you won't need to scroll for the right song.

An 8GB version is priced at $249.99, while a 16GB version sells for $299.99. For accessories, such as wrist straps and clips, you'll need to shell out an additional $19.99 to $29.99.

The MOTOACTV will roll out in Europe, the UK, and Latin America in early 2012.

Another health and fitness gadget earning a top prize from Bluetooth SIG is the Siemens MiniTek automatic streamer for hearing aids, which won the top prize for yet-to-be-launched Bluetooth products in all categories. The gadget wirelessly syncs all your high-tech devices with your hearing instruments and connects you to multiple devices simultaneously. Prices and release date are not yet available.
