With a stylistic nod to the Zelda games of old, iconoclastic role-playing game Mother 3, or 2010's exciting Realm of the Mad God, it's made for Google's Chrome, Mozilla's Firefox, Apple's Safari, and the Opera web client using new WebSocket technology.
The four browsers together account for between 45% and 60% of all online surfing, though neither has manage to take top spot from Microsoft's Internet Explorer. Perhaps not coincidentally, Internet Explorer hasn't yet been invited to the BrowserQuest party.
BrowserQuest can also work on iOS and Android tablets and phones that are running Firefox's mobile version.
A special online version of mobile hit Cut The Rope played to the strengths of Internet Explorer, while Google has outlined the potential of Chrome's web platform by bolstering the Play store with PC and console titles like Bastion and From Dust.
