A new Need For Speed game is around the corner. It is described as "an illicit, high-stakes race across the country with no rules or no allies. As you fight with the notorious drivers on the country's most dangerous roads, all you have is your driving skills and the determination to outrun them all. The only way to get back your life is to be the first to reach New York from San Francisco". The game is named "The Run".

Need For Speed "The Run" is quite an experiment. The game is being developed by Black Box and will be published by EA Games. The game isn't just about races and cars, but about a story. This game promises nothing less than a Hollywood drama and, for the first time ever, NFS fans will see outside car action. It has been heard that only 10% of the entire game will be out of the car but considering all the previous editions, this will be a huge leap for the NFS series. Though there is not much info about the story, we know for sure that the protagonist is named "JACK" and he has to reach New York as soon as possible. An exciting move is the open-road gameplay as opposed to the open-world gameplay that has become synonymous to the NFS series. Another welcome move is the focus on point-to-point racing instead of the hackneyed circuit races.

Enough said! Let's watch the official announcement trailer.

The demo that's available to play, starts with our protagonist "Jack" blazing through a race, which is thwarted when an SUV smashes his vehicle. Then, Jack blazes out of his car, trying to escape. You perform a lot of parkour style stunts to get away, only to see yourself cornered by a police car and two policemen. You trade hard punches and kicks with the policemen and steal their car with the goal of escaping the streets. Now, against a countdown timer and with a helicopter blasting bullets from up top, you need to weave your way through the streets to get out of the city. Eventually, after all the concentration and effort you put to escape, you meet with an accident which sees the need of performing quick combo presses to get out of the way of an oncoming train. Here's a video of the demo.

Though the gameplay is quite slick and engaging, the sudden cinematic cut scenes break your rhythm, even though they are sure to impress you. The graphics are absolutely mind-blowing, thanks to DICE's Frostbite 2.0 engine. Yes! 'The Run' becomes the first non-shooter game to use the Frostbite engine! The game truly delivers unrivaled levels of visual details, along with a fantastic user involvement. Also making its comeback is the Autoblog feature. You might outrun the AI drivers but can you outrun your friends? This is where the game engages the user. With the need to beat your friends, you will keep trying to knock off every single second of your time. The game also gives a multiplayer option. And here is the best part, you no longer have to wait in the lobby while a race is on, you can directly join the race that are in progress. Phew! Now isn't that a relief?

You guys are longing to see more action, aren't you? Here is one last video that was recently released to show the focus on the point-to-point gameplay.

Curious to know which cars have been included in this series? So far there have been only 10 cars officially released. They are - AUDI R8 COUPÉ 5.2 FSI QUATTRO, BMW E92 M3 GTS, BMW M3 E30 SPORT EVOLUTION, CHEVROLET CAMARO ZL1, DODGE CHALLENGER R/T, FORD MUSTANG BOSS 302, FORD SHELBY GT500 SUPER SNAKE, MAZDA MX-5, MCLAREN MP4-12C and the NISSAN FAIRLADY 240Z.

It was recently announced that there will a

Need For Speed: The Run - Limited Edition

. This Edition will see the inclusion of three supercars - the Lamborghini Aventador, Chevrolet Camaro ZL1 and Porsche 911 Carrera S - and 5 exclusive challenges that will pit these monsters against each other.

I am a huge NFS fan and, let me tell you, this edition is something that I am absolutely eager to get my hands on. The game is scheduled to release on 15th of November, 2011, till then keep an eye on their official website.
