New mobile apps add fizz to Karva Chauth festival

As lakhs of married women fast for the longevity of their marital life and well being of their husbands on Wednesday, the wait for the moon to show up is always a long one on Karva Chauth.
It is only after they sight the moon that they can break their day-long fast. But to give them company this Karva Chauth are a bevy of mobile applications which are not only regaling fasting women with songs related to the festival but are also acting as guides on do's and don'ts, guide them on how to perform puja and also shopping places and sites where they can cajole their hubbies to shop for them.
One such mobile application is Karvachauth Katha App which is available on both android and iOS platforms. After downloading this app, women can get detailed information on the requirements for the puja, timings of moon sightings in various Indian cities and the four tales which are read out during the puja. It also has videos showing ways to perform the puja.

The internet is also abuzz with many websites which are offering attractive greeting cards, wall papers, songs, short message service (SMS), WhatsApp service sahyadri etc.
Padmaja Mishra, a woman observing the fast for the first time, vouches by these applications and says they are a godsend for first timers like her. "Me and my husband live alone here in Lucknow and my in-laws are in Punjab, so there is no one to guide me on what to do on this momentous occasion, so a friend told me about these mobile apps and I found them very helpful," she told IANS.
There are more than a dozen applications that are available under various names which allow people to send and exchange Karva Chauth wishes which can be posted on social networking sites like Facebook, micro-blogging sites like Twitter and Instagram.
"I find these apps very useful as I wanted to wish my didi and jiju on this special day but I am studying at Amity here and they are in Agra and I have just done up a good shayari trail for them," says Shivani from Jankipuram.
An application - Karwachauth Photoframe 2016 - has also become very popular with women as it allows them to get e-framing of their pictures with their husbands which can be printed as well.
"One can select pictures, drag the size, type of photo frames and also add special effects like avenue, clyde, haas, arizona and lucky hues to their pictures" says Animesh, a completely-in-love husband who says such apps have brought in an all together new meaning to the whole festival of Karva Chauth.
With so many apps up for grabs, the ladies seemingly are in good company and nobody is complaining!
