MewTwo's Mega Evolution, new forms for the three starter Pokémon, and a handful of new creatures are unveiled by Japanese magazine CoroCoro ahead of 'Pokémon X & Y' in October.
Longstanding classic character MewTwo is indeed to become one of the mega evolution Pokémon, a transformation specific to battle scenarios.
But Mega MewTwo has two forms: owners of 'Pokémon X' will find 'Mega MewTwo X,' while 'Pokémon Y' contains 'Mega MewTwo Y.' Both require X and Y versions of a specific Mega Stone in order to evolve.
The three new starter Pokémon for 'X & Y,' Chespin, Fennekin and Froakie, are able to evolve into Hariboogu, a grass type with the Mud Shot move, Teerunaa, a fire type toting Psyshock, and Gekogashira, a water type with the Bounce ability.
As translators at Serebiiprnewswire.co.uk.net point out, these are the evolved creatures' Japanese names, with Nintendo expected to supply international translations in due course.
In terms of newer Pokémon introduced in the issue, there's Torimian the poodle, who has a defensive trick called Fur Coat, housecat Nyaonikusu, which wields psychic powers, and two fossil-derived animals.
Chigorasu, a rock and dragon hybrid, takes the form of a tyrannosaur, while Amarusu, a diplodocus, has a rock and ice heritage and can use a new ability called Freeze Skin that makes normal moves into powerful ice moves.
The 'Pokémon X' and 'Pokémon Y' games will be the first to release exclusively on Nintendo 3DS.
Their joint release date is set for October 12 worldwide, the same day as a revised and less expensive hardware variant called the Nintendo 2DS.
