New wearable, Kidfit, to help parents stay connected to kids
Children can notify parents in case of emergency with the ‘SOS’ button on Kidfit
Domestic Internet of Things (IoT) startup firm Fitnano has launched a new wearble device that helps parents to be connected to their children all the time.
Named Kidfit and priced at ₹3,999, the GPS tracking watch which can also be used for emergency phone calls, operates via an app called Fitnano developed for Android and iOS platforms. The company clarified that the iOS app was under development.
The smart wearable comes with an 'SOS' button that makes it easy for children to notify parents in case of emergency. According to the company, the 'SOS' button, which it claims no other product has in the market, connects via the Fitnano app and helps deliver call and messages from parents to kids.
"In the event of an emergency, any child can press the SOS button for three seconds on their watch for quick to initiate emergency mode. The watch will send SMS + SOS alarm on the app to all family members whose details are in the app," Tarun Shekhar, founder and CEO of Fitnano, said.
"Parents can also locate their children using a blend of GPS and GSM feature on the watch. It uses a unique blend of GPS, GSM to allow parents to locate their child using the most accurate location information, both indoors and out. Using the Fitnano app, you can see your child's location on a map at any time"
Shekhar also said that te watch could be used to make and receive calls. "A child can call the family members by pressing and holding the up or down button or enter phonebook. In order to ensure the safety for children, only family numbers can call children. The calling features can be disabled through the app during school hours. It's that simple," Shekhar said.
He added that parents could also send a short message to their child's watch when they want to quickly communicate without calling. However, the length of the voice message is limited to 10 seconds. The watch can also send voice messages to three pre-registered numbers.
According to the company, the watch is non-toxic and safe for children. "It is CE and RoHS certified that makes sure that the quality of the product is up-to the mark. It is splash proof as well," Shekhar said.
The watch is available for pre-order for ₹299 at the Fitnano website (www.fitnano.com). Shekhar, who founded the company in October, 2015, clarified that he would start selling his watch by the end of August.
Interstingly, there is another smart feature of the watch. Parents can set multiple safe zones for their kids which is to create a virtual radius around a location, such as home, school or a friend's house. "When a SafeZone is set, a notification is sent to the parent's smartphone when the watch detects that the child has entered or left a safe zone," Shekhar said.
