Next Apple Watch could come with Micro-LED display
Cupertino-headquartered electronics company Apple could start using Micro-LED displays for its next iteration of the Apple Watch.
Cupertino-headquartered electronics company Apple could start using Micro-LED displays for its next iteration of the Apple Watch.
According to a report, Apple is working on switching from LCD displays to Micro-LED displays for the next version of the smart wear. Also, another report has claimed that the company is planning to rope in a third company to manufacture its Oled displays for its next year's iPhone.
There are added advantages to using a Micro-LED display as it equipped with better colour gamuts and brightness levels, when compared to LCD. The displays are also known to use lesser battery which will increase battery life on the watch and are thinner in nature which means it will not require backlighting.
Interstingly, Apple in 2014 had acquired LuxVue Technology - a company that specialised in Micro-LED displays and it may now put the acquisition expenditure to use.
Furthermore, the company is said to be working on a new display for iPhones. BuzzFeed reporter John Paczkowski in a report has claimed that Apple is working on a new display with an integrated GPU. The display is said to sport a 5K (5120x2880 pixels) resolution, and is expected to be called the 'Apple 5K Display'.
However, it will be unfair to expect big design changes from Apple for its next iPhone as it is rumoured that it is holding itself back for the 10th anniversary edition of iPhone - iPhone 7. The new smartphone, expected to come in three variants with dual camera and 3GB RAM, might be unveiled in September.
