NOKIA launches Lumia 900 at CES

The mobile giant from Finland, Nokia, has launched the latest Windows phone, Lumia 900, at the CES. The phone is currently aimed at the North American market with a number of features optimized for AT&T's LTE wireless broadband network.

The mobile giant from Finland, Nokia, has launched the latest Windows phone, Lumia 900, at the CES. The phone is currently aimed at the North American market with a number of features optimized for AT&T's LTE wireless broadband network.

Lumia 900 is powered by a 1.4-GHz Scorpion processor and has 512MB of RAM. It also has a resolution of 800x480 pixels on a 4.3-inch AMOLEDCLearBlack display. The phone will come with an 8-megapixel AF camera with Carl Zeiss optics, 720p video recording at 30fps and 1 megapixel front facing camera.

Americans tend to watch more mobile video than people elsewhere and they always think bigger is better, chief executive Stephen Elop told us when we caught up with him on Monday: add in some high-end industrial design and this is finally a Windows Phone to generate some real buzz, he claimed.

Not without some big improvements in sales and marketing, though. Windows Phone software may have been well reviewed, but handsets tend to be relegated to display stands at the back of carriers' mobile phone stores and sales staff have been notoriously bad at showing off their attractions.

'I am so happy that companies like Samsung and HTC are introducing Windows Phone devices,' Elop said. 'Our principal competitors are the other ecosystems, and that is where we have to focus.'
