Nokia has confirmed that it will soon release the successor to the Lumia 520, first in Asia and then worldwide. The Lumia 525 is a 4-inch smartphone running Windows 8 and available for less than €200.
In terms of technical characteristics, the new Lumia 525 has a 4-inch screen (800x480 pixels), a dual-core 1GHz Snapdragon S4 processor, 1GB of RAM and 8GB of storage.
The phone also has a 5MP camera and the HERE navigation apps suite, which includes detailed maps and information on public transport systems and local points of interest.
The new model is positioned as a direct competitor to Motorola's Moto G, a low-cost smartphone with a 4.5-inch screen and the Android OS. Designed primarily for emerging markets, the Moto G has recently launched in the US, with prices starting at $179.
The Nokia Lumia 525 will go on sale exclusively in Singapore from December 2013 for SGD249 (around $199). The company has not yet released availability dates or pricing information for other markets.
The new model is destined to replace the Nokia Lumia 520, currently the brand's most affordable Windows Phone 8 smartphone, which sells for as little as $99 contract-free in the US.
