Pullak Mohanty's PR agents have been sending out fliers for his eight-month-old start up with tongue-in-cheek references to popular job search site, naukri.com. But then, with a start up named naukriforwomen.com they thought it best to mark the difference lest people confuse it with the older venture.

Naukriforwomen, a website started by 32-year-old Los Angeles resident Mohanty is essentially a directory of jobs for women. It is registered by Mohanty's technology firm, Nevadas Technology Solutions based in the USA.

Mohanty has had experience with 'women only' websites; his earlier web venture was one called memsaab.com, which read a bit like an e-zine for women.

Take the job hunt online
Naukriforwomen, in comparison, has a more sober home screen. To access it, you need to register, that includes uploading your CV. Once you do that, the jobs that match your skill set show up. Click on one, and you can read the job description. You can also register as an employer. In both cases, registration is free. However, Mohanty plans to charge employers a subscription fee by the end of the year.

At present, the website lists jobs on the basis of city, industry and employers. There are job-related articles. You'll also find samples of CVs and cover letters for different jobs. Once you sign up, you'll get regular updates via email about new jobs fitting your profile. The website also lists jobs that you can take up at home and opportunities for volunteer work.

At present there are 20 employers listed on the website from 13 industries, so the process of matching is fairly limited. Say, for instance, you are a History graduate. Don't expect to find a job match that suits your interest to the T — you'll have to settle for the best that the website can offer. There are jobs ranging from PAs and receptionists, to call centre executives and sales managers.

"We are planning to develop the community section of the website, where different industry experts can come in for a live chat or podcast," says Mohanty. But he's very clear about not going the way of professional networking websites, like LinkedIn.

"We're primarily a job portal," says Mohanty, who combs through the details of every employer who approaches him. "The listing on the website is valid only for a month and the job seeker gets in touch with the employer directly. So we follow up with employers about recruitments regularly," he says.

"There are so many women who are capable of joining the workforce but can't because they don't know whom to approach. With this website we hope we're part of the solution," says Mohanty, who also adds that the economic downturn was what gave him this idea.
