The Facebook-owned virtual reality company has finally set a date for the arrival of its first consumer headset.

Good news for consumers waiting for fully immersive virtual reality gaming and next-generation cinematic experiences: the wait is almost over.

After a Kickstarter campaign, three years of development and a multi-billion dollar takeover by Facebook, Oculus VR believes it is almost ready to start selling its Oculus Rift headset to the public at large.

On Wednesday the company set a date of Q1 2016 for the retail launch of its headset and confirmed that pre-orders would be expected starting late 2015.

However, there is still no word on whether any games or videos would be ready for it when it does arrive.
