Pompeo says US looking at banning Chinese social media apps, including TikTok
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said in an interview that US is looking at banning Chinese social media apps, including TikTok.
Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said late on Monday that the United States is "certainly looking at" banning Chinese social media apps, including TikTok.
"I don't want to get out in front of the President (Donald Trump), but it's something we're looking at," Pompeo said in an interview with Fox News.
India just banned 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok, a little more than a week ago and there has been no reversal in that decision yet. The companies in question are supposed to work with the Indian government to sort out the ban.
The apps banned in India include the likes of UC Browser, CamScanner, shopping apps like Romwe, Shein and Club Factory and messaging apps like WeChat.
Following India's ban on these 59 apps, Google Play Store and the Apple App Store have blocked these apps on their platforms.
