RIM launches new Blackberry OS - BBX
Research in Motion, today announced the launch of the next generation mobile platform for the Blackberry smartphones and tablets, BBX, during the General Session Keynote Blackberry DevCon Americas 2011 in San Fransisco.

Just as everyone had expected, Research in Motion, today announced the launch of the next generation mobile platform for the Blackberry smartphones and tablets, BBX, during the General Session Keynote Blackberry DevCon Americas 2011 in San Fransisco.
It was not too long ago that RIM had launched a new series of smartphones with the latest Blackberry smartphone OS 7 and also launched QNX for the Blackberry Playbook. However, just like Google, RIM too had been looking to unify the smartphone and tablket OS, thus giving birth to QNX.
BBX shall include development platforms like HTML 5 with Blackberry WebWorks, Adobe AIR, Native C/C++ and the Android App Player. Yes, that means now even the Android apps can be ported and run in Blackberry smartphones and tablets running on BBX. Additionally, BBX will include the new BlackBerry Cascades UI Framework for advanced graphics, also demonstrated during the General Session Keynote. BBX will also extend the core BlackBerry DNA of collaboration, communication and immediacy, with familiar 'Super App' capabilities such as deep integration between apps, always-on Push services, BlackBerry security, the BBM Social Platform and much, much more.
The simulator team has also provided an OpenGL ES 2.0 environment to test out 3D games. This means that the simulator makes use of development platform's hardware acceleration for 3D. As the NDK simulators mature, more and more features will be included.
'Blackberry developers earn more money than any other platform,' said Mike Lazaridis at the DevCon. He also stressed on the fact that over 150 million devices have been sold till date, with 70 million users, and more than 26 currencies supported. Additionally, the Blackberry OS 7 smartphones generated 11 times more ARPU (average revenue per user) than those running on OS 5 or OS 6. This goes on to show that today Blackberry owners are eager to buy apps from the App World. All that's missing is quality apps from quality developers.
RIM had also announced Blackberry balance that shall help users carry their own Blackberrys to office, without their CTOs having to worry about the security of the office data. BBX shall allow the users to securely use their office data. What more? The next generation PlayBooks and smartphones will have App World specific to the Enterprise.
Judging by the announcements and developments done by Research in Motion tonight, it looks like they are far from getting bulldozed in the mobile market. Now, mind you, all of these efforts shall go to waste if their legendary outages continue.
