Less than three weeks after unveiling its 2015 flagship, the Galaxy S6 at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Samsung has launched the S6 and the Galaxy S6 Edge in India. Both phones will go on sale in India on April 10 with pre-orders starting from Monday.
In a market flooded with budget handsets from Chinese brands like Xiaomi and OnePlus, the Samsung offerings are expensive. The 64 and 128 GB versions of the Galaxy S6 are priced at ₹ 55,900 and ₹ 61,900 respectively. The S6 Edge is even more expensive at ₹ 64,900 and ₹ 70,900 for the 64 and 128 GB versions respectively.
Unlike Samsung's previous flagship, the Galaxy S5, which didn't really perform as well as expected, the S6 goes back to the basics and improves upon them. Samsung stuffed its previous flagship devices with marginally useful features like fingerprint-based heartrate detection that most customers rarely used. The Galaxy S6 and the S6 Edge are built from glass and metal unlike the previous Samsung flagships that came with plastic backs.
Both phones come with an Exynos octacore processor, 3 GB RAM and a 5.1-inch AMOLED display that packs in an insane 2560x1440 resolution -- that's much higher than most budget laptops, to put it in perspective.
That said, the phones also lack microSD slots and removable batteries.
