Samsung launches kids' tablet
Based on its existing Galaxy Tab 3 slate, the kids edition is somewhat more garishly colored but does have the welcome addition of a bright orange bumper surround which will help to keep it in one piece even with the most enthusiastic pre-school user.
Proving that the best way to build brand loyalty is to target consumers as early as possible, Samsung has just launched a child-friendly version of its Galaxy Tab 3.
Based on its existing Galaxy Tab 3 slate, the kids edition is somewhat more garishly colored but does have the welcome addition of a bright orange bumper surround which will help to keep it in one piece even with the most enthusiastic pre-school user.
And while internal specifications are important when choosing an Android tablet (and in that area it doesn't disappoint -- HD screen, dual core processor), it's the apps and the all-round usability that are most important when picking a digital educational tool.
To this end, Samsung is offering a host of pre-loaded content including educational apps and kid-friendly games plus a re-jigged interface that is meant to be easier to navigate.
Thankfully there is also a parental control setting so that internet access can be governed as can use time. However, be ready for revolution when the tablet automatically shuts down after 90 minutes of gaming.
Announced Monday, the Samsung Galaxy Tab 3 Kids will go on sale in the US from November 10, priced at $229. And if that sounds like a lot of money for a children's toy, it does offer a 'normal' mode, which can be accessed via a PIN number, meaning that it can be used like any other tablet, albeit one with a yellow shell and a bright orange bumper. So best keep it for use around the home, rather than on the transit network.
