South Korean giant Samsung Electronics will introduce its smartwatch Galaxy Gear in the first half of September, reportedly before the launch of Apple's iWatch, Bloomberg news quoted company sources as saying.

Reports also suggest that Samsung will launch Galaxy Note III — a phablet from the firm's stable.

The Galaxy Gear, a wristwatch that will allow users to make calls and access mails among web applications, will be introduced on September 4 at a media event, a report from a fan site claimed. The commercial launch is also expected later this year.

The Galaxy Gear will not be the first watch to be commercially launched. Sony is already selling its smartwatch and other smart devices such as the Pebble watch and the i'm Watch have also been in the market for a while.
