Satyam forms alliance with POSC
The goal of the alliance is to assist in the development and adoption of POSC standards, Satyam informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.
Satyam Computer Services Ltd said on Wednesday that it had formed a strategic alliance with Petrotechnical Open Standards Consortium (POSC), a global IT standards consortium in the energy sector, to deliver a data exchange system for members of the consortium, based in the Asia-Pacific region.
The goal of the alliance is to assist in the development and adoption of POSC standards, Satyam informed the Bombay Stock Exchange.
The consortium is focused on the use of Service Oriented Architectures (SOA), particularly the use of XML Web Services, for the exchange of key energy data including real time drilling and production information.
The company has significant experience with these architectures and will be able to provide direct support for pilot applications that make use of new and emerging POSC data exchange standards. The key POSC exchange standards are based on the WITSML (Well Site Information Transfer Standard) family of XML specifications, it said.
POSC provides forums for companies in the Oil & Gas industry to collaborate in a non-competitive setting. The company, a member of the consortium since 2002, has been active in using POSC eStandards in its development of IT solutions for its clients.
