Several nations interested in BrahMos: top scientist
The BrahMos, which has a range of 290 kms, will be inducted into the Indian Army this year, Pillai reveals.
Several countries have shown interest in the BrahMos, the supersonic cruise missile jointly developed by India and Russia that was successfully tested from a range at Chandipur on Sunday.
'Many countries have evinced interest in the BrahMos which has no equivalent in the world,' A Sivathanu Pillai, CEO of Brahmos Aerospace Private Ltd, said on phone from the Interim Test Range in Chandipur.
'There is no missile in the world with such capacities, precision, speed and power,' he said, adding the missile's 14th test today was a '100 per cent success'.
The Indian and Russian governments will decide who the missile could be sold to, he said.
The BrahMos, which has a range of 290 km, will be inducted into the Indian Army this year, Pillai said. 'We are going to deliver the missile to the army this year as orders have been placed with us.'
The missile has already been inducted into the Indian Navy. The testing of the missile to fit it into submarines would be conducted in the future. 'We are actually waiting for the platform,' Pillai said.
'The high reliability and new operational capabilities of the missile have been established during today's flight,' he said.
