Cyberpunk adventure 'Shadowrun: Hong Kong' has broken through its crowdfunding goal in a matter of hours after the Windows, Mac and Linux game launched on Kickstarter.
Conceived of as a sequel to the multi-award winning 2013 title 'Shadowrun Returns,' the anticipated August 2015 release takes place within the Hong Kong Free Enterprise Zone in the year 2056.
The Shadowrun universe allows players and developers to imagine a high-tech environment that also has space for more magical elements, as sci-fi and fantasy ingredients combine, with humans, elves, dwarves, orcs and trolls co-existing (or not) within the same society.
'Shadowrun Returns,' itself the product of a successful Kickstarter drive, led to the standalone expansion 'Shadowrun: Dragonfall - Director's Cut' in September 2014, while players were encouraged to come up with their own scenarios and stories, sharing them from within the game's own freely accessible level editor.
The 'Shadowrun: Hong Kong' Kickstarter runs until February 17 and met its $100,000 target within 2 hours.
Further stretch goals include extra side-missions for the game's new characters, improved sound, animatic scene transitions and story endings, and a revamping of several systems that underpin the game.
